Meet Cole, one of our most avid riders, and his staff pick: the Trek Slash 9.
Cole was on the hunt for a true one-bike solution, a machine capable of handling everything from punishing long days in the saddle to the gnarliest, high-speed descents. He was immediately drawn to Trek’s high-pivot design, which provides a smooth, composed feel through rough terrain without the overly lengthy sensation common in other high-pivot bikes. Add in the range of geometry adjustments and a smart spec for the price, and he knew he had a winner.

Here's what he has to say about Trek Slash 9:
I chose the Trek Slash 9 because I wanted one bike that could handle everything from long days in the saddle to gnarly, high speed descents. Trek’s take on a high pivot design was a big draw, offering a smooth, composed feel through rough terrain without the lengthy feeling that many high pivot bikes tend to have. I also liked the range of geometry adjustments and the sensible spec for the price.
The alloy frame, while heavier, is more bombproof than its carbon counterpart and keeps the price down significantly. The GX T-Type drivetrain has been rock solid and performs flawlessly. I swapped in SRAM Maven Silvers for more power and control on big hitting days, added a RockShox Reverb AXS dropper for a cleaner cockpit, and the RockShox Vivid Coil out back for its consistency on long descents.
Although the Slash is not quite as capable as a DH rig, I haven’t felt the need for my downhill bike on 95% of my rides. The composure it offers through high speed, rough terrain makes everything feel slower and more controlled, even when you’re pushing the pace.
Cole’s review makes it clear: the Trek Slash 9 is more than just a bike; it’s a commitment to conquering the entire mountain with a single, highly capable machine.
Its smooth high-pivot design takes the edge off of brutal terrain, giving you that 'slower, more controlled' feeling even when you're pinned. And Cole’s choice of the alloy frame shows you don't need to break the bank for a rig that is "bombproof" and ready for your own smart upgrades, like the confidence-inspiring SRAM Maven Silvers.
If your goal is to reduce your quiver and ride a versatile, aggressive enduro bike that truly eliminates the need for a dedicated DH rig on most trails, the Slash 9 is your answer.
